A Nonchurchgoer's Guide to Jesus and His Kingdom

Yes, You Are Only One Person

Posted in Jesus Christ by Mike Gantt on February 12, 2013

Yes, you are only one person.  And therefore you can only do what one person can do.  But what one person can do is enough.  Jesus was one person and look what he accomplished!

Bible notes on this post.

The purpose of this blog is to proclaim Jesus Christ to those who want to hear about Him without having to join a church – or anything or anyone else – but Him.

    Mike,

Sorry Jason was so abrupt with you over at his site. I made a defense of you there. I think he totally misunderstood what you were getting at.

I commend you for your attitude of fair play, but Jason is right that I encourage people to forsake church in order to pursue Christ. What seems odd is that he’s apparently wiling to defend his choice against those who’ve made other choices – as long as that choice wasn’t the kingdom of God.

Some churches should be forsaken. Those that place the sinner at the center and make the whole thing into a big religious, how-to, spiritual-ascendancy project.

But there are many good and faithful churches that place Christ at the center. Where the worship revolves around and is centered upon His finished work.

I happen to have found such a place, by the grace of God.

I’d love to talk to you some more about, Mike.

I’m just headed out to do some chores. But I’ll be back…I promise.

And you’re always welcome to visit my site. There’s a lot of anti-religion/pro-Jesus stuff (sermons and classes) there.

    Take care, friend.

That post highlights two of the some 40,000 different Christian denominations that exist today.  If church is the way of God, why are there so many different ways?  And if those Lutherans thought that the Serbian Orthodox Church accurately reflected the way of God, why did they not abandon their Lutheranism in favor of it?

11 For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe’s people, that there are quarrels among you. 12 Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, “I am of Paul,” and “I of Apollos,” and “I of Cephas,” and “I of Christ.” 13 [a]Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized [b]in the name of Paul? 14 [c]I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one would say you were baptized [d]in my name. 16 Now I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in [e]cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void.  1 Corinthians 1:11-17 (NASB, courtesy of BibleGateway)

Church Is Not the Answer; Christ Is

      Thanks, Mike.

Where else are you going to hear the Word and receive the sacraments? The mall?

  6. Mike Gantt said, on February 13, 2013 at 7:09 pm

There are no sacraments in the kingdom of God. There’s only obedience and blessing or disobedience and wrath.

If church is the only means you have of hearing the word of God, I wouldn’t want to deny that to you. However, that probably only takes up 20 minutes of the Lutheran proceedings. Couldn’t you just get an audio recording?
